About the Opportunity
The Marine Technician will attend numerous class marine vessels all around the world to perform installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair to fire protection equipment of all kinds. Due to the nature of marine work on ships, this position requires that travel may be required with very short notice. The Marine Technician holds a high level of responsibility as lives and assets depend on the accuracy and quality of work being performed daily.
Compensation
- Salary - Pay is hourly and the rate is negotiable depending on candidate's background and experience. Will be discussed during the interview.

Job Duties
- Assist Lead Mechanical Technicians with installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of fire protection systems.
- Perform inspections of portable/semi-portable fire extinguishers.
- Perform inspections and testing of Fire Suppression systems.
- Perform inspections and testing of Galley Hood Water Washdown systems.
- Perform inspections and testing of Fire Detection Systems. (Gas suppression, CO2, INERGEN, FM-200)
- Display the intention to learn and grow as a valued employee of the company.
Qualifications
- MUST have minimum high school diploma/GED
- 1-5 years of Marine experience/skills desired
- Experience with USNS/MSC/MARAD/USCG/Maritime Academy vessels
- Minimum of 1-2 years if basic mechanical skills
- MUST have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Must be able to work full time hours, with the possibility of unusual schedule hours as needed, along with overtime hours as needed, sometimes on short notice.
- Travel 75% or higher, including international travel 25%
- Must be able to gain clearance to enter government work sites and ports
- Ability to obtain TWIC
- Prior knowledge or the ability to learn NFPA 10 (Portable Extinguishers).
- Prior knowledge or the ability to learn CFR's regarding Fire Detection and Suppression Systems.
- Read and understand OEM manuals for the various systems.
- Understand SOLAS and USCG regulations for Fire Detection and Suppression Systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of our responsibilities to customers for the interaction between Harris and the Regulatory Bodies (ABS, USCG).
- Have general knowledge and understanding of the hand tools required for the trade as well as obtain required tools.
- Good/Clear communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and understand functionality of systems.
- Must be able to travel/work CONUS and OCONUS.
- Obtain NFPA 10, OSHA 10 certification.
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and outdoor settings, which can potentially expose employees to noise, dust, heat stress, thermal stress, low light conditions, heights, etc.
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as needed, which would require use of fall protection equipment and other safety devices
- Capable of using hand and power tools, including specialty tools resulting in cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening and other methods resulting in torque, vibration, noise, etc.
