Position Summary:
The Sprinkler Designer at Marmic Fire and Safety will be responsible for designing and developing fire sprinkler systems, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards. The designer will collaborate with project management teams, sales, and clients to create accurate and efficient sprinkler system designs from concept to completion. This role involves reviewing architectural plans, performing hydraulic calculations, and ensuring all designs meet NFPA and other regulatory requirements.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide Water-Based Systems design and system calculations in a safe and timely Manner. This includes Site Plan, Building Sections, Equipment Details, Seismic Bracing and Calculation, General Notes, Project Applicable Notes, Legend, Hydraulic Calculations Information Badge for each system, Border and Hatch Hydraulic Areas and all other information that is applicable based on NFPA Design Documentation Requirements.
- Review all Architectural and Engineering plans/specifications prior to beginning design.
- Collaborate with Project Management Team and Sales to develop formal RFI’s to submit to Client/GC/CM.
- Record RFI’s and responses within the Client File.
- Include Project Team (Design leader, Project Manager, Field Superintendent and Director) in all correspondence.
- Witness and perform fire hydrant flow testing required to establish water supply availability.
- Provide internal documentation and record all flow tests results within the internal established database.
- Complete external reporting as needed
- Evaluate all project sales information, construction, safety and hazard occupancies to develop a complete design plan for each project.
- In a safe and timely manner, perform physical survey of existing buildings and pre-fab survey’s once building is built.
- Utilize appropriate PPE when on jobsites.
- Provide 4 stage design (p)review throughout the design process for comments and corrections.
- Stage 1 –Fire Sprinkler Mains layout,
- Stage 2 – Branch Line & Sprinkler Head Layout,
- Stage 3 – Hydraulic Calculations, Pipe Sizing & Node Points
- Stage 4 – Completed Design for Review.
- Collaborate with Project Management Team and Sales to establish material manufacturer(s), provide material submittals as required by project, deliver to AHJ, Client and GC/CM via Mail, email or document sharing site in accordance with project specification and contract documents.
- Once internal design review is complete, submit permitting documentation and material submittal packages for Permitting and Approvals to the appropriate AHJ, client and/or GC/CM.8.
- Track permitting and submittals: record and distribute review results and all re-submittals in client file
- Maintain required licensure and certifications related to the Water-Based Designer

Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in designing or installing fire sprinkler systems, including college or trade courses.
- Certification and experience with AutoCAD or equivalent design software such as AutoSprink or HydraCAD.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business planning skills.
- Excellent communication, motivational, and interpersonal abilities.
- NICET Level II certification in Water-Based Systems.
- Proficiency in standard desktop software applications, including Microsoft Office and internet functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NICET Level III or higher certification.
- Experience with complex or large-scale fire sprinkler projects.
- Familiarity with 3D modeling software or advanced hydraulic calculation tools.
- Prior experience collaborating with project teams on multi-phase construction projects.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in fire sprinkler installation.
