Summary
Used AutoCAD software to support the engineering department by preparing layouts of fire alarm systems, detailed drawings, floor plans, riser diagrams, point-to-point diagrams, and voltage drop and battery calculations. Details will include all views, dimensions, and notes necessary for installation. Make copies of drawings and maintain information regarding changes to the database. Makes simple decisions but refers most questions/problems to the fire alarm division manager. Solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with design and fire alarm terminology. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Design fire alarm / low voltage systems with as much accuracy and detail as possible to enable the field installation to be completed with as few design errors as possible.
- Review preliminary design layouts to determine critical placements of devices and design fire alarm systems within allocated hours for each job.
- Calculates voltage line loss and battery calculations for FACPs and booster power supplies. Implements the proper layouts for future field installations.
- Submits design plans to proper department leadership for approval and obtains permits as required. Confers with engineering and design staff to determine design modifications and enters editing information into the computer.
- Keys in specified information are used to produce a graphic representation (hard copy) of the design for review and approval by the engineering and design staff.
- Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking accuracy of all parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to the whole structure or project.
- Make revisions if necessary to create practical design drawings.
- Drafts detailed multi-view drawings of layout and systems. Implements details and notes as required to satisfy codes and municipal jurisdictions.

Education And Experience
One-year AutoCAD experience.
